El Salvador Launches Exclusive Cryptocurrency Citizenship Programme
In a daring move, El Salvador has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative, introducing the “Freedom Visa” programme, enabling foreigners to gain citizenship through cryptocurrency investments.
Participants can secure citizenship by investing $1 million in either USDT or BTC. The programme is limited to 1,000 participants, admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. To begin the process, a non-refundable deposit of $999 in Bitcoin or USDT is required.
The application process is streamlined, taking only minutes for the initial stage but up to six weeks for approval. If the cap of 1,000 participants is reached, El Salvador stands to generate $1 billion through this unique investment avenue.
This move underscores El Salvador’s commitment to leading in cryptocurrency adoption. The nation made history in 2021 by legalising Bitcoin as a legal tender, despite global reservations. President Nayib Bukele, a strong advocate, has seen a $3.6 million increase in his Bitcoin investments.
Despite reports of gradual adoption, El Salvador’s persistent pursuit of cryptocurrency initiatives reflects its commitment to spearheading the digital financial revolution.
